We found a 90s AFL that is named after the Tampa Bay Storm franchise and it's the best story you'll hear all week.

It all started with a trip down memory lane after the Zubaz Twitter/X account (yes somehow they are still around) tweeted out a throwback to 1991 when the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL wore Zubaz inspired uniforms.

But little did I know, that we were about to learn about a legend:

Naturally, my curiosity was peaked IMMEDIATELY. I had to know more.

This story is so great. In a time of turbulence in the new beginning of this AFL 3.0, this is a perfect reminder of what the power of sports can do for people.

The Tampa Bay Storm were more than just a team to Chris, they were a positive part of his life that kept him going when things were tough. So much so, that when it came time to reinvent himself and start fresh with his life -- he literally made the Storm a part of his identity.

I think this is one of the things that gets lost by the leadership of some of these leagues when they are making these boneheaded mistakes and not holding themselves accountable:

Sports are an escape for people. Life is hard for a lot of people who experiences a lot of trials and tribulations, and sometimes the 3 hours per week watching their favorite team play is an escape from those worries.

For those 3 hours per week, those issues don't matter. People can connect with likeminded folks and bond over a common purpose, rooting on the home team. That community that is created can be life changing for people.

Big shoutout to Chris for sharing the story and for letting us in to that part of his life.
