The Nashville Kats were introduced in early November as one of the 16 teams in the new AFL slated to kick off in 2024. This was particularly exciting because they were one of only 6 'legacy' teams from past iterations of the AFL. And just look at their logo! That Kat is cool as hell. Looking like Danny Zuko but with a guitar because, you know... NASHVILLE.
The Nashville Kats are back! A legacy AFL logo with a pretty good history with a tip of the cap to the city's music roots -- this logo has it all! We're ready for kickoff!
...but wait. Did they already rebrand? The new logo is okay -- football shape, three stars representing the Tennessee state flag, claw marks because... kats. But it makes you wonder why the sudden shift from the Danny Zuko Kat to this new design. The folks on X have been voicing their opinions, which is probably just nostalgic outrage at this point. Purely speculation (a specialty of mine), but it seems like they may have encountered trademark issues with the previous logo before they ever got started. There's already been some speedbumps and eyebrow raising decisions with the relaunch of the AFL so far, and honestly this is another one. We'll see what happens, but it looks like the new logo is here to stay. What are thoughts on the new logo?
